Maintenance of Government Hostels for Scheduled Caste Boys and Girls

Main Objective of the Scheme:
To provide educational facilities for backward class boys and girls, enabling them to pursue higher education and to support economically weaker sections in obtaining school and college education.
Key Conditions of the Scheme:
- Admission based on merit.
- The student must be a resident of Maharashtra.
- The annual income of the parents of the admitted student should not exceed Rs. 2,50,000.
- Students studying in 8th standard and above, including college education, can apply for admission.
- The application deadline is before July for school students and from July to August for college students.
Nature of benefits provided:
- Accommodation- Students admitted in hostels are provided with cot, mattress, pillow, pillow cover, bed cover, sheet, blanket etc.
- Food-Students in government hostels are provided with two full meals daily. Meals include wheat/millet/sorghum, rice (rice), lentils, vegetables, tuber vegetables etc.
- Breakfast- Students are provided with one of the following items: rice, poha, sira, milk (with sugar), boiled eggs twice daily and for vegetarians, cornflakes, one apple and one fruit available according to the season daily.
- Mutton/Chicken 250 grams and 250 grams of rice/pulav with salad are provided twice a week for each student. Vegetarian students are provided with two vegetables, curd and curd, rice and a sweet dish twice a week. 50 grams of ghee is included in the diet of the students every week. Similarly, onion, lemon, pickle, papad, salad etc. are included in the daily meal.
- Subsistence allowance- In addition to free accommodation and food, every student in the hostel is given a subsistence allowance every month for expenses as follows.
- Students in hostels at divisional level – Rs. 800/-.
- Students in hostels at district level – Rs. 600/-
- Students in hostels at taluka level – Rs. 500/-
- In addition to the subsistence allowance as above, girls are given an additional Rs. 100/
- Uniforms and school supplies-
- Two pairs of uniforms for school students Rs. 500/ per year.
- In colleges where there is a dress code, two pairs of uniforms Rs. 1000/
- Medical students Rs. 500/ for apron, medical supplies Rs. 2000/- (Stethoscope Rs. 1000/- and other supplies Rs. 1000/) per year.
- Engineering students Rs. 500/ for boilersuit, drawing board and other supplies Rs. 2500/ and lab apron Rs. 500/
- Physical education college students Rs. 4000/ per year for 2 uniforms.
- Painting, Music and other diplomas in the arts branch as well as Rs. 4000/ per year for necessary supplies for students in science and commerce branches.
- All admitted students in the hostel are provided with umbrella/raincoat and rubber boots at Rs. 500/- per year.
- Rs. 2000/- for educational trips and Rs. 500/- for workshops and Rs. 1000/- per project for project reports.
Sports and Entertainment- Each government hostel is provided with funds for the following items.
- Rs. 25000/- per year for organizing student gatherings and other cultural programs for each hostel (for sound system materials and other expenses)
- Rs. 10000/- per year for each government hostel for purchasing sports equipment.
Other facilities-
- Clean drinking water facility is provided to the students in the hostel.
- Fire fighting facility is installed in the hostel.
- One computer with internet facility for 10 students and one printer for one hostel.
- Inverter, solar energy facility.
- Modern and independent library in the hostel. It has LCD, computer internet along with all necessary furniture and all facilities of e-library. 5 newspapers, English/Marathi, 10 educational magazines. Rs. 2.00 lakh per hostel is permissible for competitive examination.
- Rs. 10000/ per hostel for parents’ meeting.
Application process:
Application will be made online to the concerned Assistant Commissioner, Social Welfare on the www.hmas.mahait.org.
After scrutinizing and checking the applications, the eligible students are given admission as per the rules through the Assistant Commissioner.
