Pre-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Caste Students in 9th and 10th Standards

Main Objective of the Scheme:
- The scheme was approved to be implemented from the academic year 2013-14 as per the Government Resolution No. EBC 2012/Pr.No.151/Education-1 dated 04 October, 2013. The central government started this scheme to reduce the dropout rate of Scheduled Caste students in schools.
Key Conditions of the Scheme:
- The scheme is applicable to students studying in government-recognized schools.
- The income limit for the parents of the students applying for the scholarship under this scheme is Rs. 2.00 lakh.
- There is no minimum marks requirement for the students.
- Students must apply for the scholarship under this scheme.
- The benefit of this scheme will not be applicable to beneficiaries of other pre-matric scholarships from the central government.
- At the state level, the Assistant Commissioner (Education), Social Welfare Commissionerate, Pune, and at the district level, the District Social Welfare Officer, Zilla Parishad, and Social Welfare Officer, Class-2, Greater Mumbai, are designated as grievance redressal officers.
Note:
The state government’s Savitribai Phule Scholarship scheme is currently available for all girls from Scheduled Caste categories studying in 8th to 10th standards. There is no income limit for this scheme. However, girls from Scheduled Caste categories studying in 9th and 10th standards with parents having an annual income of up to Rs. 2.00 lakh will be included in the Government of India’s Pre-Matric Scholarship scheme. Therefore, the current Savitribai Phule Scholarship scheme will continue for girls in the 8th standard and for girls in the 9th and 10th standards whose parents have an income exceeding Rs. 2.00 lakh. However, a single beneficiary cannot avail of both schemes.
Nature of Benefits:
- The rates of scholarship and other grants under this scheme are as follows (for 10 months):
- For non-residential students:
- Scholarship rate (per month): Rs. 150 (total Rs. 1500 for 10 months)
- Annual grant for books and other expenses: Rs. 750 (total Rs. 7500 for 10 months)
- In addition to the above scholarship, additional allowances for disabled students in unaided schools are as follows:
- Reader allowance for blind students: Rs. 160 per month
- Transport allowance for disabled students not residing in hostels: Rs. 160 per month
- Escort allowance for disabled students: Rs. 160 per month
- Helper allowance for disabled students: Rs. 160 per month
- Coaching allowance for mentally retarded students: Rs. 240 per month
